Overview
This month, we decided to install sequential turn signal flashers for our taillights. These enable the taillights to sequentially flash from inside to outside when you hit your turn signal. Each time you turn on your signal, the 3 bulbs quickly light up one at a time to essentially "point" where you are turning. It is much more noticeable when riding behind the car and gets other people's attention as to what you'll be doing.

These are built and sold by WebElectric Products in Mayfield Hgts, Ohio along with several other electrical products including: Daytime Running Lights, Flashing Brake Light, Dome Light Dimmer, Hood/Trunk Light Timers, and more. Larry, the owner of WebElectric, has done a great job with the website at webelectricproducts.com. The website is nicely laid out and has an easy to use order form. Other features of the website include installation instructions, FAQ's, customer cars, and warranty information.

Cost
At the last update of this article, the sequential taillights were $79 which includes free standard shipping. The item number is STS-1M which fits all 96-04 Mustangs, excluding 99-01 cobra. There are other kits to fit other makes and models of cars if needed. To order a set, visit the link above.

Installation
The install for the lights took us about 1 hour. The instructions provided included large photos for reference and detailed directions including wire colors and specific connections to make. All the electrical connectors, wiring, and wire ties are included for a super clean install. There's not much to the kit to install. There is a sealed module that we wired into the existing taillights using the provided wiring. The only other item is the modified flasher module that replaces the factory module under the dash. (Larry will even refund you $6 if you return your stock flasher back to him.)

Installing the flasher module was a breeze. We removed the knee bolster cover and knee bolster from under the steering wheel. This allows easy access to the yellow flasher module mounted under there. There is a clip that holds the unit firmly in place so it was easier to unclip the unit and pull down for a better view. Just pop the old unit off and the new one in place. Reinstall your knee bolster and cover. We actually chose to keep the 3 lb knee bolster off the car and only reinstalled the plastic cover. It's extra weight in our drag racer that we didn't feel was needed. (Disclaimer: Keep in mind, that metal plate is there to provide safety in the event of an accident.)

Now back to the trunk. to get the taillights off, you need to remove the interior panels of your trunk. First pull off the rear trunk panel by removing the plastic pushpins. Remove it from the car. For the side panels, you can simply pull them back out of the way to reach the 4 bolts on each side. Remove the nuts from the bolts holding in the taillight. Carefully pull your taillight away from the car so as not to scratch your paint or break the clips. The instructions lay out everything for you so just follow it step by step.

Once you get the light off the car, take it to a table where you can work on it. Use a towel to prevent scratching the lens. Follow all of the steps on the instruction printout to correctly re-wire the light. The main point we want to mention, is when inserting the "pigtail" into the socket, be sure to push it as far as it will go. We didn't get it far enough, and the center light didn't flash. So we had to remove it and diagnose the problem. Other than that, everything was a breeze.

Plug up the harness to the car when you've finished with the modifications, re-install the lights being sure not to pinch a wire in the process. Test the turn signals before completely bolting both lights back into place. After we had re-installed both lights, we kept blowing fuses, and had to remove one lens to discover a pinched wire so be careful. After you confirm everything is functioning properly, put your trunk panels back in and you're finished!

Conclusion:
It was an easy install and quality product from what we can see so far. It's a great cosmetic modification for under $80 and is very eye catching. We have checked out a few other websites selling similar products, and were not impressed with their web professionalism, instructions, or customer service. Larry has been great in assisting us with any questions by email and fast order processing. The instructions provided in the kit are very detailed with large pictures, and even include descriptions of how to use the wiring connectors if you are not familiar with typical wiring modifications.
